HealthSouth Arlington Real Therapy Open House
ARLINGTON, Texas— HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington held an Open House on Thursday, July 23 from 4:30- 7 p.m. to introduce and celebrate HealthSouth’s newest addition to physical therapy. The REAL Therapy program is currently being piloted at HealthSouth Arlington providing realistic environment applied learning.
The REAL Therapy program allows patients to practice real life scenarios through community-based activities such as going to the grocery store, eating at a restaurant, visiting a self-serve deli and pumping gas at a gas station among others. Therapy stations are equipped to mimic these scenarios giving patients the chance to safely practice and work towards their physical rehabilitation goals.
The event featured a ribbon cutting by The Arlington Chamber of Commerce and provided a view of the Real Therapy gym. Officials from local congressional offices were present and included Jodi Saegesser from Representative Joe Barton’s office and Councilman Michael Glaspie. President of the Southwest Region for HealthSouth, Frank Brown spoke to attendees on the integration of REAL therapy into patients’ plan of action and how the program will impact the Arlington community.
“This program sets HealthSouth Arlington apart by providing patients the chance to safely practice and work towards independence in every day scenarios,” said Frank Brown, President, Southwest Region. “We want to get patients back in their communities and back to doing the things they love.”
In an emotional presentation, the REAL Therapy gym was dedicated in memory of the late Ellen Hamilton, a therapist at HealthSouth Arlington who passed away in 2013 battling cancer. Her parents and family were present in her honor and were able to experience the different stations of the gym named for Ellen including Hamilton’s Restaurant.
